What is Acetonitrile?
Acetonitrile, CAS 75-05-8, is a clear, colourless and highly volatile liquid with a characteristic odour. Also known as methyl cyanide or cyanomethane, it is a polar aprotic solvent with excellent solvency and complete miscibility with water.
It is widely used in pharmaceutical production, chromatography, laboratory analysis, chemical synthesis and the manufacture of specialty chemicals. Acetonitrile is highly flammable and must be handled in accordance with the applicable Safety Data Sheet.
