What is dimethylformamide?
Dimethylformamide, commonly known as DMF or N,N-Dimethylformamide, is a clear, colorless liquid with a mild, characteristic odor. It is a polar aprotic solvent with strong dissolving power and is completely miscible with water and many organic solvents.
DMF is identified by CAS number 68-12-2 and EC number 200-679-5. It is widely used as a reaction medium, extraction agent, and processing solvent in pharmaceutical, chemical, polymer, and coating applications.
Due to its hazardous properties, including reproductive toxicity, DMF must be handled under controlled conditions with appropriate ventilation, exposure control, and personal protective equipment.
