Mono Propylene Glycol (MPG) - Feed Grade

Buy Mono Propylene Glycol (Feed Grade) in Bulk, Drums & IBCs

Rotterdam Chemicals Group supplies feed-grade Mono Propylene Glycol (MPG), a high-energy glycol used as a glucogenic energy source in dairy cattle and ruminant nutrition. Authorised in the EU as an energy-rich feed material, it is distributed from Rotterdam in drums, IBCs and bulk ISO tanks.

What is MPG Feed Grade?

Feed-grade Mono Propylene Glycol (CAS 57-55-6), also known as 1,2-propanediol, is a clear, colorless, nearly odorless, hygroscopic liquid that is fully miscible with water. In animal nutrition it acts as a glucose precursor (gluconeogenesis), helping high-yielding dairy cows cover the energy deficit of early lactation and reducing the risk of ketosis. It is also used to raise the energy content of pig and poultry feed.

Applications Across Industries

Dairy cattle energy

Glucogenic energy source for ruminants during the transition and early-lactation period.

Ketosis prevention

Reduces ketone body levels and supports metabolic stability in high-yielding cows.

Pig & poultry feed

Boosts the energy content of monogastric rations.

Pet food

Humectant and preservative in selected pet food applications (subject to local regulations).

Feed processing

Carrier and dust-binding agent in premix and compound feed production.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is feed-grade MPG approved in the EU?

Yes. 1,2-Propanediol (propylene glycol) is authorised in the EU as an energy-rich feed material. National regulations may vary, so confirm the status for your market.

How does  feed-grade MPG  help prevent ketosis?

In ruminants it acts as a glucose precursor, covering the early-lactation energy deficit and lowering ketone body levels.

What is the difference between feed and industrial grade MPG?

Feed grade meets the purity and documentation requirements for animal nutrition; industrial grade is for technical use such as coolants and antifreeze.

Is feed-grade MPG miscible with water?

Yes. It is fully miscible with water, making it easy to incorporate into liquid feeds and premixes.
