Food Industry
Used as a humectant, carrier, and preservative in food products (USP grade only).
Rotterdam Chemicals Group supplies Mono Propylene Glycol (MPG), a clear, water-soluble glycol used in the production of antifreeze, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and food products. We offer both industrial and USP grades, distributed from Rotterdam in drums, IBCs and bulk ISO tanks.
Mono Propylene Glycol (CAS 57-55-6), also known as 1,2-propanediol, is a colorless, nearly odorless, viscous liquid with excellent hygroscopic and solvent properties. It is fully miscible with water and many organic solvents, making it suitable for diverse applications across food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and industrial sectors.

What is MPG used for?
It is used in antifreeze, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food processing, and chemical synthesis.
Is MPG toxic?
MPG is considered safe for use in food and pharma under USP standards, but industrial grade is not for ingestion.
Can MPG be used in heat transfer systems?
Yes. It is suitable for closed-loop HVAC and process heating systems.
What is the difference between USP and industrial grades?
USP grade meets purity requirements for human contact or consumption; industrial grade is for technical use.
