Methylene chloride (dichloromethane, DCM) is one of the most important solvents in pharmaceutical production. It dissolves a wide range of active ingredients, does not burn and evaporates at about 40 °C, so it is easy to remove after use. For pharmaceutical work, the grade and the paperwork matter as much as the price.
Few solvents combine strong solvency, low boiling point and non-flammability the way DCM does. That makes it hard to replace in extraction, synthesis and purification steps, where solvent must be removed gently without damaging heat-sensitive active ingredients.
Because traces of solvent can remain in the final medicine, pharmaceutical manufacturers need a consistent, high-purity product with full batch documentation.
Under the ICH Q3C guideline, methylene chloride is a Class 2 residual solvent with a limit of 600 ppm in the final product (permitted daily exposure 6.0 mg/day). Manufacturers must show that residues stay below this limit, so they need a solvent with a known, consistent impurity profile and batch-level documentation.
We keep pharma-grade methylene chloride in stock at our Rotterdam warehouse, so we can deliver quickly across Europe and worldwide. Packaging: 200 L drums, 1,000 L IBCs, road tankers and ISO tanks, or custom packaging on request.
